Compressors
The Compressor is a pump mechanism, driven by the engine via a clutch operated pulley and a single or multi groove belt. The heart of the Air Conditioning system, this component provides the high pressures required to transport the cooling Gas/Liquid around the system.

Replacement is usually required due to noisy bearings, clutch inoperation or seal leaks. Regular system maintenance greatly minimises the occurrence of these faults.

Condenser
This is the most common failing part in the system. Looking very much like a conventional car radiator, this component is in the line of fire, mounted right behind the car’s grille and susceptible to stones and road debris.

The condenser function is to remove heat from the refrigerant, collected from inside the vehicle cabin, and dissipate it to the outside air. The cooling effect is assisted by an electric fan bolted to the condenser.

Evaporator
This part is located within the vehicle cabin, usually inside the heater box under the dashboard. It’s job is to absorb heat from the car interior and transfer it to the refrigerant, which is then carried away to the compressor and eventually the condenser to radiate the heat to the outside air. The interior fans blow through the evaporator and provide the cooling air flow via the air vents

Receiver/Filter/Drier
This is sometimes referred to as an accumulator. It is a very important component, requiring changing whenever the system is serviced or every 2 years, whichever is sooner.

The filter removes moisture from the refrigerant, a major cause of premature system/component failure.
